Francis Mark Wallington (born 17 September 1952) is an English former professional footballer, who was a prolific player as goalkeeper. He later became a teacher of PE in St George’s Academy, Sleaford but has since left the position.

At the end of summer 1988 one week short of turning 36, Wallington signed for Lincoln City almost twenty years after his first relationship with the club as an under-age schoolboy. Wallington would stay at Lincoln for three years. He was named “Player of the Season” in 1989/90. He was also named as Lincoln’s number 64 among the century-long list of league heroes in the year 2006 after which he made his 577th league game with Blackpool in April of 1991, at 38 years and more than 201 days. In the year 1991 that made him the second-oldest player to make an appearance in the league for Lincoln at the time,, even though the club has since moved him to fifth place.

In the wake of Ian Andrews emerging as the top selection in Leicester, Wallington moved on to Derby County in the summer of 1985. The club paid a price of £25,000 was paid to secure his services. In his debut season Wallington was instrumental in helping the Rams climb up the Third Division before winning the Second Division title in 1986-87. Wallington was not a part in Derby’s promotion back to the top division since his spot was taken over by new-signing Peter Shilton whom Wallington had been studying at Leicester in the early stages of his career.

After having won England the caps in Schoolboy as well as Youth level, Wallington signed for Walsall and became a professional in the month of October 1971. After only 11 league games, Leicester City manager Jimmy Bloomfield paid PS30,000 for his services.

Wallington started his career at Leicester as an understudy to Peter Shilton and it was it not until Shilton left for Stoke City in 1974 that Wallington could make himself a permanent fixture. Once he was recognized as the primary goalkeeper in the team, Wallington was rarely out from the team over the following 10 seasons, playing for six seasons in succession from 1975-81, and setting an all-time club record of the club’s record of 331 games in succession. His service in the Foxes was recognized by a testimonial year, with the most notable being an official match against Nottingham Forest on 20 October 1982. He would go to play 460 times in every competition with Leicester City, placing him in the top three spots in all-time appearances.

He then returned to his home town of Sleaford to become a secondary school teacher whilst he also spent time coaching with the England U18 set-up. In September 1994 he came out of retirement to assist Grantham Town on a couple of occasions, before moving up to the role of Assistant Manager in January 1995, leaving the club at the end of the season.
