Dekker was born in Gatooma located in Mashonaland in the then Rhodesia in 1969, with his family had previously resided in South Africa. He was raised in Bulawayo and attended Christian Brothers College where he first started playing cricket regularly. He was a member of his Zimbabwe under-15 team as well as for Zimbabwe schools.
After retirement Dekker coached cricket at Tonbridge School in Kent, England. In 2017, he was hired as an officer for Community Cricket in the Kent County Cricket Club and in December 2018 , he became the head coach for Kent Women. The team was able to lead the ladies’ team towards victory in the Women’s County Championship title in 2019 Dekker began an assistant coach position at Kent Academy. Kent Academy, working alongside the head of Talent Pathway and former Second XI coach Min Patel.
A Test invitation was announced in December 1993. Dekker was able to play 14 Test matches as well as 23ODI games for Zimbabwe and his last international appearances occurring towards the end of 1996. The first player in Zimbabwe’s history to take his bat through a full Test match with a score of 68 not out against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 1993.

Mark Hamilton Dekker (born 5 December 1969) is a Rhodesian born former Zimbabwean international cricketer. The player played in 14 test matches as well as 23 One-Day Internationals for Zimbabwe during the 1990s. In December of 2018, Dekker was appointed the head coach for Kent Women in England before becoming a coach with Kent County Cricket Club Academy. Kent County Cricket Club Academy in the year following.
After leaving school, Dekker was a player in England for the Central Lancashire Cricket League side Crompton Cricket Club between 1988 and 1989. By 1990, he was being played at the helm in Zimbabwe with Old Miltonians and Matabeleland before the province was granted first-class status in cricket. He was a player with Young Zimbabwe against Pakistan B in a later match that was the status of first-class as well as various other games against teams. He was “scoring plenty of runs in domestic cricket” as an opening batsman. Dekker found himself “surprised” to be included in Zimbabwe’s Zimbabwe national team to take part in the One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand in October 1992.
