After being let go from Durham at the conclusion in 1993 County Championship, Briers proceeded to join Cornwall as a county representative during 20 Minor Counties Championship matches between 1994 until 1996, the final of which was in a match against Devon County Cricket Club. Briers was awarded the Cornwall cap in the year 1995.
Briers left Cornwall at the end of the 1995 season and joined Herefordshire County Cricket Club for the 1996 season. Briers played in eleven Minor Counties matches for Herefordshire until 1998, with his final Minor Counties Championship appearance coming against Cheshire in August 1998. Briers also represented the club in a single List-A match against Middlesex in the 1998 NatWest Trophy, this was Briers final List-A appearance.
Briers retired from representative cricket at the end of the 1998 English cricket season.
When Durham was elevated to the first-class level in the year 1992 and thus gaining entry into the 1992 County Championship, Briers made his first-class debut against Somerset. Briers first made List-A appearances same season, playing Sussex as part of the Sunday League. Briers played in 17 first-class games for Durham and scored 462 runs with an average 17.17 and four half- centuries and a record-breaking 62*. Briers final game in first-class was with Lancashire in 1993. his last one-day game for the club taking place in the same season , against Middlesex County Cricket Club.
