He was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. At seven years old, the left arm of his father was broken after he fell off his balance when putting corn in the grain auger. The arm that reached the shoulder was caught between the blades, and was later was amputated at Halifax. Following an accident, the surgeon was employed in the role of a counselor junior in the War Amps organization. He also traveled to Nicaragua through the non-profit organization SchoolBOX to help in building schools for children in people in the community who needed to relocate.
In the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea Arendz won a Canadian single Games record six medals, including 5 individually and 1 team which included biathlon bronze, gold, and silver and his first cross country medals and was also honored by Canada’s flag-bearer during in the Games the closing ceremonies.
At the 2014 Winter Paralympics, he received silver and bronze medals for the 7.5 kilometers standing and 12.5 km standing. Arendz participated in the 7.5 km standing biathlon as the reigning champion. He placed second overall seven tenths of second in front of the gold medallist Vladislav Lekomtcev, from Russia. Azat Karachurin also from Russia won bronze in the competition. The conditions for the weather were not great since it rained heavily and there was dense fog during the 12.5 kilometers race. Arendz completed the race in 30:24:6 and the reigning the world champ Azat Karachurin from Russia won gold. Arendz was the only Canadian to take home two biathlon medals during the Winter Paralympics. Following the competition his old skiing club Brookvale Nordic Ski Centre was renamed a trail for skiing located in Brookvale, P.E.I after him and boasted that this was where he learned to ski. Arendz hopes that the newly named ski trail will inspire more people to consider cross-country skiing and biathlon an attempt.
