Mario Bergara is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on May 4, 1965 in Montevideo, Uruguay. Mario Esteban Bergara Duque (born on May 4, 1965, in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan economist Professor, public accountant and politician from the Broad Front. He was president of Uruguay’s Central Bank of Uruguay from 2008 until 2013 and then between 2015 and 2018. He was also the Minister for Economy as well as Finance (2013-2015) and also as the Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance (2005-2008). From February 15th 2019, he has been Senate President of the Republic for the 49th Legislature.

He resigned from his post within the ministry at same time Danilo Astori was also resigning. The 11th of November, 2008 the president was elected to the Central Bank of Uruguay, the position that he held until the 26th of December 2013. At that time, the position was made the Minister for Economy and Finance to replace Fernando Lorenzo. He was reappointed to the position as the president of the Central Bank in April 2015.

In the 2019 general election, he was elected Senator of the Republic for the 49th Legislature, a position he accessed on February 15, 2020.

Bergara graduated as an economist (1987) in addition to a public accountant (1990) in the University of the Republic. Later, he earned the MA (1997) as well as an MA (1997) and a PhD (1998) on Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

In 2019, Bergara was a candidate in the Broad Front primaries election. However, he was defeated by Daniel Martínez, who represented the party in the general election of the same year. After the primary result of the primary elections Bergara obtained a total vote of 23,688 corresponding to 9.28% of the total votes received by the Broad Front.
