Mario Beretta (born 30 October 1959 in Milan) is a famous Italian association football coach and former footballer. He was the most recent head coach at Serie B side Latina.
In 2005-06 he was the coach of Parma and finished in tenth, and then ended up being seventh after an incident in 2006 Serie A scandal which consequently resulted in Parma to UEFA Cup qualifying. He then coached Siena during the 2006-07 season but was not able to win the battle for relegation until the final matchday. Siena kept its place in Serie A after a dramatic win over S.S. Lazio. A few days later, he decided to leave the club replacing him by Andrea Mandorlini; however he was reinstated as the head coach of the Tuscan side following Mandorlini was dismissed on November 12, 2007 after an away loss of 3-3 to Livorno.
On 29 November 2009, Beretta agreed to replace Stefano Colantuono at the helm of Serie B outfit Torino F.C. and in January 2010 Torino have fired the coach, who was replaced by his predecessor Stefano Colantuono.
On 6 December 2010 Beretta was announced as new head coach of Serie A relegation-threatened Lombardians Brescia, replacing Giuseppe Iachini at the helm of the Rondinelle. His tenure as Brescia boss lasted less than two months, as he was dismissed on 30 January 2011 after a 0–3 home loss to relegation-battling rivals Chievo.
After three years of great success in Varese from Serie C1, Beretta was appointed as a player by Ternana from Serie B. The exciting debut of 2002-03 was followed up by a dismissal the following season. In the 2004-05 season, Serie A club Chievo Verona asked him to take over for Luigi Delneri. Despite a solid start the season, Beretta’s Chievo gradually but steadily fell to the bottom of the table. Chievo was dismissed after three matchdays before the close of the season. Chievo heavily engaged in a gruelling struggle to stay in the top division, and was taken over by caretaker Maurizio D’Angelo.

Beretta was a brief career as a footballer, playing during the period 1976-77 with Pro Sesto and in that 1978-79 season for Rovellasca with Rovellasca in Serie D.
In 1982, at the age of 23, he took on the role of coach for the amateur Abbiategrasso’s youth team, and in 1984 was the year for Monza’s. He also was a highly successful school teacher in the middle of the 80s with Istituto Gonzaga as well as Istituto Leopardi from Milan. His first role in the team was in 1994 with the amateur team Corsico while his first appearance on the professional level came in 1995 for Pro Patria, followed by Saronno, Como and Lumezzane.
On 18 May 2008, after Siena’s 2–2 draw against Palermo in the final matchday, Beretta said in his press conference that he was quitting Siena. This was confirmed by the club a few days later; he left Siena after a very impressive season ended with a record 44 points, the best result in Robur’s time in the Italian top flight. He was successively announced on 23 June as new head coach of Lecce, newly promoted in the 2008–09 Serie A. He was sacked on 9 March after a 0–0 home draw against bottom-placed Reggina in the Week 27 of Serie A that left Lecce in second-last place.
