Marilyn Waring is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on October 7, 1952 in Ngaruawahia, Waikato, New Zealand. Marilyn Waring grew up at Taupiri where her parents operated a butchery. The great-grandfather of her, Harry (Arthur Henry) Waring had immigrated into New Zealand from Hopesay in Herefordshire, England in 1881 and set up the family’s butchery business in Taupiri. In 1927, Harry Waring stood unsuccessfully for elections to the parliament of the Raglan seat of the Reform Party, the forerunner of the National Party. A gifted soprano in her early years Her parents had always hoped to see her become a classically trained singer. Waring graduated in 1973. Waring earned the Honours BA in international politics and political science in the form of Victoria University of Wellington.

In 1975, when she was 23 she became the youngest parliamentarian for the right-wing New Zealand National Party. As a parliamentarian, she served as chairperson of the Public Expenditure Committee. Her support for the Labour Party’s opposition’s proposal for a nuke-free New Zealand policy was instrumental in the triggering of an election in the year 1984. New Zealand general election, and she resigned from the parliament in 1984.

She also served on the Select committee for Violent Offending, taking a particular interest in the Aroha Trust, formed by Black Power women. As a Member of Parliament, she was also the New Zealand Observer at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, and chaired the New Zealand Delegation to the OECD Conference on the Role of Women in the Economy in 1978.

During her period in Parliament, she served as Chair of the Public Expenditure Committee, Senior Government Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and on the Disarmament and Arms Control Committee. In the general election of 1975 in 1975, she was elected an official New Zealand National Party member of the Parliament representing The Raglan electorate. The choice she made in 1975 was a reflection of the “obvious ability and … well-articulated convictions”, but it was also helped by the fact that the two local candidates with the most acclaim were antagonistic, and after one of them was eliminated, the support of Waring to stop the selection by the opposing candidate. At the age of 23, she was the youngest parliamentarian at the time she was elected.
