Marie Phillips (born 22 April 1976) is an British writer from the UK. Her most well- known work is her debut novel Gods Behaving Badly which is a humorous tale of a mythological Greek gods that live in the modern day city of Hampstead. It first came out within the United Kingdom in 2007, then became a best-selling novel in Canada. Her next novel The Table of Less Valued Knights is comically based on the mythology that is King Arthur. The novel was released by the UK in 2014 and was nominated in 2015 for the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction. Her third novel is one that is a Shakespearean comedy titled Oh I Do Like to be… came out in 2018. published in the year 2018.

Gods Behaving Badly, written by Phillips is his very first novel. The novel was published within the UK to mostly positive reviews, and was distributed to more than 12 countries. It was also sold to Canada which saw it reach the top spot in the top-selling novels list. The film was initially commissioned to be telecast from Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Productions, and was turned into a film in 2013 with Sharon Stone, Alicia Silverstone and Christopher Walken by Big Beach Films.

Writing with various others under the pseudonym Vanessa Parody, she co- authored the 2013 erotic spoof Fifty Shelves of Grey.

Together with Robert Hudson (novelist) she composed three episodes that comprised Warhorses of Letters, a BBC Radio 4 comedy about the horses of Napoleon and Wellington which starred Stephen Fry, Daniel Rigby and Tamsin Greig. The first volume of the series was funded by the Unbound platform, and was released at the end of 2012.. In 2016, they collaborated on the Christmas show Some Hay In a Manger as well to be broadcast by BBC Radio 4.

Phillips is a native of London and attended Bryanston School and Robinson College at the University of Cambridge, where she studied socio-anthropology.
