Marie-Christine Vergiat (born 1956 in Roanne, Loire) is an activist of community organizations as well as is a French politician. In June 2009, she is a member of the European Parliament which represents her party, the Left Front. She is the wife to Jean-Pierre Dubois, president of the French Human Rights League, and with whom she has an infant son. She is the head of the organization located in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, which is located outside of Paris.

In 2009, during the European elections, she was the highest-ranked candidate on The Left Front list in the South-East district, and was elected a member of the European Parliament. In her term she will be a member of the section of the European United left-nordic green Left. She was elected the group’s treasurer and as the leader of the French delegation.

She has been active within the Human Rights League since 1983 and was a member of its central committee up to March 2005, and was the president of the Seine- Saint-Denis Federation from January 2000 until January 2008. She has also been a part of the French Education League since 2005 as well as the vice president of FOC 93, and has been active in various organizations that deal with the rights of human beings and education for the masses (FCPE).

Marie-Christine Vergiat is the child of a butcher and secretary. In 1965, the Vergiat family relocated to Chalon-sur-Saone in France, where she lived for her entire teenage years and childhood. After that, she relocated to Dijon to further her studies. She holds a bachelor’s degree of Public Law and a master’s degree in History of Law.
