Niemeyer has been an editor, author, and duty editor since 1995 for several TV shows, including Willemsens Woche (ZDF), Berlin-Mitte, Kulturreport, Sabine Christiansen, ARD, and Kultur 21 (DW-TV). She was responsible for the German- French ARTE women-magazine LOLA as well as the German editorial section of the ARTE lifestyle publication CHIC. Niemeyer was editor at the ARTE’s head office in Strasbourg, and at the NDR ARTE editorial division in Hamburg. She was responsible for various cultural and documentary slots.

Since 2002 Niemeyer has been chairwomen of the association MaikaeferFlieg e.V., a cultural bridge between children of Kosovo and Germany. The association conceived the exhibition Mit anderen Augen, showing children’s and teenager’s perceptions of the Kosovo war. Since April 2000 the exhibition has toured through European and American cities. Accompanying the exhibition, Niemeyer and Anna Berkenbusch published the trilingual book Ich denke oft an den Krieg, Mit anderen Augen – Kinder fotografieren den Krieg im Kosovo.

Within the scope of that project, Niemeyer has lectured extensively, dealing with the different visual perceptions of war pictures. She gave a lecture in the Edith-Ruß-Haus in Oldenburg in 2004. The lecture was part of the Shock and Awe Kriegsbilder zwischen Dokumentation und Ideologie series. In her speech she discussed whether female war reporters shoot different pictures of war than their male colleagues and in what way the perceptions of war differ between men and women, using the example of war photographer Anja Niedringhaus.

Niemeyer traveled to the United States on an Arthur F.-Burns scholarship in May 1991. She spent four months at the WUSF public radio station, Tampa, Florida, and the WABI TV CBS branch, Bangor, Maine. She was a correspondent for O137, the Pay TV broadcaster station Premiere in Berlin and East Germany between 1991 and 1994.

Niemeyer was born in Bremen, a Hanseatic city. She has also been to Afghanistan, Ramallah, Israel, Syria, Egypt, Turkey, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Nepal and Vietnam, from where she reported for ARD, DW TV and ARTE, where she served as a free correspondent.
