He was a part of the 2007 Cincinnati Reds Major League Baseball season.
McBeth was added to the A’s 40 man roster in November 2006. This prevented him from being selected by another team through the Rule 5 Draft. McBeth, along with minor-league pitcher Ben Jukich was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in April 2007 for Chris Denorfia.
McBeth started the 2006 season in Stockton as the team’s closer. He was not scored upon in eight appearances, while also racking up seven saves. He was immediately promoted to Midland (Double-A), where he saved 25 games, posted an ERA of 2.48 and allowing opposing hitters to a paltry .213 batting average.
McBeth made his major league debut with the Reds on June 6, 2007, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Four days later, on June 10 he recorded his first win against AL rival Cleveland Indians.

McBeth was a student at the University of South Carolina. He played college summer baseball for the Chatham A’s of Cape Cod Baseball League in 2000. The Oakland Athletics selected him in the fourth round, as a center-fielder, of the June 2001 Major League Baseball Draft. During his three years in professional baseball, he never hit the ball well. He slugged.233 (205-for-881) with 19 runs scored and 111 runs batting. However, he did have a strong arm, and was convinced to try pitching. McBeth split 2005 between Kane County, the Arizona A’s Rookie League and Stockton. He posted a 2-2 record with an earned run average 3.62 and 25 relief appearances of 31.1 innings.
McBeth has a fastball that can travel up to 93 miles an hour in 2005. He has a slider as well as a changeup. Ron Romanick, A’s former big-league pitcher, helped improve his changeup.
His success at the Double-A level prompted yet another promotion, to the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. Success was harder to come by at the minors’ highest level; in 7.1 innings, he surrendered nine runs and failed to register a single save. Still, McBeth’s composite 2006 numbers were impressive: 3-3 record, 3.07 ERA, 32 saves and an opponents’ batting average of .198 in 70⅓ innings pitched.
