Krieger, on January 11, 2010, denied a new trial to Joseph Nacchio, the former CEO of Qwest. He was convicted in 2007 of insider trading. Nacchio’s legal team claimed Robin Szeliga, former Chief Financial Officer of Qwest, gave different testimony in civil court than the testimony that was given during the criminal trial. Krieger denied the request on grounds that the civil trial testimony was not substantially different than the criminal trial testimony and that minor differences are unlikely to result in an arrest.
President George W. Bush nominated Krieger to the United States District Court for the District of Colorado on September 10, 2001. She was appointed to the seat that Daniel B. Sparr had vacated. Sparr became senior. Krieger was unanimously confirmed by the Senate in a senate vote. She received her commission on January 30, 2002. She was appointed Chief Judge on January 1, 2013. On March 3, 2019, she assumed senior status.

Krieger was born in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from Lewis and Clark College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and then from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1979 with a Juris Doctor.
Krieger was a Colorado lawyer from 1979 to 1994 after graduating from law school. She was elected a United States Bankruptcy judge for the District of Colorado in 1994. This position lasted until her 2002 nomination to the federal bench. Krieger was also an adjunct lecturer at the University of Colorado between 1999 and 2001.
In an April 20, 2018 order, Krieger declined a request to return an imprisoned transgender woman, Lindsay Saunders-Velez, back to her cell after her lawyers argued that the “punishment pod” she had been assigned to after a minor infraction housed several male inmates who had tormented her previously. Krieger said that the attorneys hadn’t proved a risk of “imminent and irreparable injury”. Hours after the judge issued her ruling, Saunders-Velez was allegedly raped. She was taken to a hospital with rectal and other injuries. A nurse there noted that the alleged rapist might be HIV positive.
