He finally found his groove during the 2010 Apertura. In that tournament, he played in every game except three of his team’s runners-up campaign. He was able to finish the tournament with just 6 goals conceded in 16 matches and kept a clean slate in 12 of them. He was the goalkeeper who had the lowest goals-to games ratio at the conclusion of the tournament and received the Ubaldo Matildo Fillol award. Barovero played in the following semester’s Velez 2011 Clausura winning campaign and all 12 Copa Libertadores semiist campaigns.

Barovero began his professional career playing in 2003 for Atletico de Rafaela (Argentine second-division). The club won the championship in his first season and was promoted to the Primera Division. Barovero was the third choice goalkeeper of the club in the first division. He was behind Angel David Comizzo, Ezequiel Madran and Ezequiel Medran. Rafaela was demoted at the end 2003-04 season. Barovero, however, remained with the club and became the first choice goalkeeper in the B Nacional. Before his 2007 move to Huracan (of first division), he made 113 appearances at Atletico de Rafaela.

He played in all 38 matches his team disputed during the 2007/2008 season. Velez Sarsfield bought him at the end of that season.

After his successful spell in Velez, in the 2012 Argentine winter transfer window giant River Plate picked him up for a US$250,000 season-long loan. He soon became the undisputed starting goalkeeper during his first semester at the club, and upon completion of the loan, River made his move permanent for a reported fee of US$950,000. Since then he’s been one of the stars of the Argentine side and was named Man of the Match in more than one occasion, but most notably on an intense fixture in the 2013 Copa Sudamericana against Buenos Aires rivals San Lorenzo to advance to the Round of Sixteen. He won multiple titles with the squad, most notably the 2015 Copa Libertadores. The fans consider him an idol of the team.
