Mboua learned football in his hometown of Yaounde, Cameroonia. Mboua, along with 300 other boys, took part in trials at Elpida de Yaounde’s local club in 1999. Mboua stayed at Elpida de Yaounde as part of the academy for two years before moving to Racing FC Bafoussam where he only spent one season.
Mboua signed in 2002 for Mali’s AS Real Bamako, and began his senior season. Mboua was a star in the 2003-04 season, scoring 13 goals in 26 games. This earned him an Al-Zamalek close-season transfer in 2004.
His form for Cambuur, where he scored 11 times in 31 games, earned him a place in the Cameroon squad for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, where he made two appearances.
