He recorded his first solo album Poco ruido and mucho duende in 1978 with Jose Luis de Carlos. It was a personal record with flamenco nuances. The great success of the theme Verde was due to Lorca’s poem. He recorded his second album, Espiritu Sin Numa with Daniel Barba de las Arenas in 1980. His third album, Talco y bronce (1981), was his best-selling album. He also sold half a million copies of the singles Un ramito de violetas, and Por tu ausencia. They were followed by Cuando la noche te envuelve (1982), La quiero a morir (1983) and Mal de amores (1984).

1986 saw the release of Echando sentencias. This included Indian and Arab instruments. En voz baja a las rosas was his 1988 release, featuring adaptations by Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz and Gongora. He gave testimony to his faith with the 1993 album Quedate con Cristo. After a long silence in which he sang only for the Evangelical Church and returned to singing in 1998, he released Por tu ausencia. This live recording of the greatest hits and new songs became a gold album. He reissued the gold record in 1999 with the soundtrack to the movie Sobrevivire.
