After years of freelance journalism, author, and presenter, Kay was the editor-in-chief of Berlin’s queer magazine, Siegessaule, published by Jackwerth publishing. Kay was a key player in the transformation of the magazine from being a gay publication to one that is gay-lesbian and eventually queer inclusive. She was the co-editor-in-chief of the L-MAG lesbian magazine and helped to create it in 2003.
Since 2007, she has been working as the curator and a team member of the organising committee of the Pornfilmfestival Berlin.

Manuela Kay was the editor and presenter at Radio 100 Berlin, the first private radio station in Berlin, from March 1987 to February 1991. This included the gay-lesbian program Eldoradio. Co-author and film producer, she is the co-author of many video films about lesbian sexuality.
