Classic CD Magazine also mentioned his recording of Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto to Aranjuez with Placido Domingo and Philharmonia Orchestra as the best recording. His Nylon and Steel is a collection featuring duos with guitarist greats Al Di Meola (Deep Purple), Andy Summers (The Police), further demonstrating Barrueco’s exceptional versatility and inventive programming. Concierto Barroco, EMI’s European and Koch International’s American releases, was released in spring 2006. It contains world premiere recordings of new pieces for guitar and orchestra by Roberto Sierra, Arvo Part, and two concertos for guitar by Antonio Vivaldi.

In 2012 Barrueco was named a Fontanals Fellow of United States Artists.

In October 2013 he released Medea, which includes Barrueco’s arrangement of the ballet by flamenco guitarist/composer Manolo Sanlúcar recorded with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and Víctor Pablo Pérez conducting, and in May 2014 he released China West, a recording of guitar trios in collaboration with his protégés, the Beijing Guitar Duo (Su Meng& Wang Yameng.

NHK in Japan, Bayerischer Rundfunk Germany and RTVE Spain have broadcast his performances. He has appeared in a Lexus commercial on CBS Sunday Morning, A&E’s Breakfast with the Arts and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Manuel Barrueco: a Gift and a Live, a documentary portrait of him, ran for one hour in 2006. The documentary includes interviews and performances, as well as several performances. In one interview, he recalls his childhood in Cuba and vows to never return to the communist regime.

In 2010 he released a solo recording, “Tárrega!”, which includes works and arrangements of the Spanish composer Francisco Tárrega and which received a Latin Grammy nomination for “Best Classical Album.” His latest release Chaconne–A Baroque Recital came out in 2012.
