Manny Vega is one of the most popular and richest American painter who was born on February 10, 1956 in Bronx, New York, United States. Vega was born on September 12, 1956 in Bronx (New York). In 1979, he joined Taller Boricua as an artist and stayed there until 1986. He was also a student of Robert Blackburn, Harlem’s printmaker, during his Printmaking Workshop between 1980-1990.
His current focus is on creating a series mosaic projects that are based on classic Byzantine mosaic fabrication. He calls this “Byzantine Hip Hop”. Vega owns a studio in East Harlem on 103rd Street.
Anna Araiz, Vega’s wife, died from brain cancer in October 2001. He has made several pieces about her.

Manny Vega, born 1956, is an American painter and illustrator, as well as a printmaker, muralist and mosaicist, as well set and costume designer. His artwork depicts the history of the African Diaspora in America, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Manny has been travelling to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil since 1984. There he was initiated into the Afro Brazilian temple called “Ile Iya Omi Ase Iya Masse”. His creative talents were used to create elaborate ritual costumes. The Fowler Museum of UCLA and Smithsonian have documented his work in this medium. Dartmouth College has also documented it. This work was documented in the book, Beads, Body and Soul: Art and Light within the Yoruba Universe, and in The Yoruba Artist.
