She was named programme officer at World Wide Fund for Nature (also known as WWF), where she worked on the Eastern Himalayas Biodiversity Hotspots program. She was also the secretary of Itanagar Press Club. She is currently the president of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists. She was elected to the Arunachal Pradesh state service commission in 2011.

Some of the positions that she has occupied comprise General Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society, member of the North East Writers’ Forum and General Council member of the Sahitya and Sangeet Natak Akademi.

In 2011, she was awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India. Her book Arunachal Pradesh, The Hidden Land was awarded the Annual Verrier Elwin prize by Arunachal Pradesh in 2013. In 2017, she was awarded the Sahitya Akademi award for her novel The Black Hill.
