He was previously a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab between 2002 and 2007.
In the 2013 Pakistani general elections, he was re-elected as a candidate for PML-N in Constituency NA-54 (Rawalpindi-V). He was defeated by a candidate from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf with 76,336 votes.
In 2008 Pakistani general elections, he was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan (PML-N) as a candidate of Constituency NA-54(Rawalpindi-V). He was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan with 58,228 votes. He defeated a candidate from PPP. He was re-elected to the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab in the same election as a candidate of PML-N constituency PP-10 (Rawalpindi-X). He won 35,532 votes, defeating Chaudhry Mashood Akhtar (a candidate of the PPP). He was elected to the Punjab Assembly.
