Everett was a Kodak Small College All American selection, a three year All Gulf South Conference pick and a two-time MVP pickee for the Mississippi College Choctaws. He also set a school record with 3,316 yards rushing and a school record for TD’s (35), and also caught 43 passes to 458 yards. [3]

In 1995, Everett established The Major Everett Foundation [₉] and remains active in the National Football League Players Association. Everett was selected by the Birmingham Stallions as the 149th pick of the 1983 USFL Draft in the 13th round. Everett reported to the Birmingham Stallions camp but he didn’t want to play, as his mother suffered a heart attack on the day he was due to report. After spending a week at camp, Everett was released by the Birmingham Stallions and Everett became a free agent for the Philadelphia Eagles. After being in the USFL camp, he was the first to be signed by an NFL team.

Everett went to New Hebron High School. The Golden Bears won the 1977-78 Mid- South Conference Championship with coach John A. Flynt, going 11-1 in their senior year. Everett was named All Conference runningback and All Conference defensive back.
Everett was a free agent signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in May 1983. He quickly established a reputation for himself as a great special team player under legendary Special Operations Coach Frank Gansz. In 1983, Everett was a rookie. After the devastating injury sustained by Bill Cowher, his teammates elected him Special Teams Captain in 1984. Born and raised in New Hebron, MS, as one of eight children (five brothers and two sisters) of Carlie and Velmon Everett. In April 1984, the town of New Hebron recognized his accomplishments with a Major Everett Day. Major Everett married Valarie Barrett in May 1988; they have two sons Major Everett, II (b. 1991) and C.
