Everett was selected by the Birmingham Stallions as the 149th pick of the 1983 USFL Draft in the 13th round. Everett reported to the Birmingham Stallions camp but he didn’t want to play, as his mother suffered a heart attack on the day he was due to report. After spending a week at camp, Everett was released by the Birmingham Stallions and Everett became a free agent for the Philadelphia Eagles. After being in the USFL camp, he was the first to be signed by an NFL team.
