His career began at FC Den Bosch. He played 107 matches for Den Bosch (1994-192001), nine for Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen 2001-2002, and 72 for RBC Roosendaal 2002-2005. After that, he moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam where he was loaned back to RBC for a second season before joining Feenoord’s inaugural team.
Coach Erwin Koeman banned him from the bench after he made some mistakes in 2005-06 and Feyenoord, as of July 2006, decided to remove him from the team. Aerts was moved to Willem II in Tilburg.
