Magomed Ankalaev is one of the most popular and richest Mixed Martial Artist who was born on June 2, 1992 in Makhachkala, Russia. Magomed Alibulatovich ankalaev, Russian: Magomed Alibulatovich Annkalaev; born in Makhachkala (Dagestan), 2 June 1992) is a professional Russian mixed martial artist at the Light heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Ankalaev was also World Fighting Championship Akhmat’s Light heavyweight champion. He is currently ranked 14th in the UFC light-heavyweight rankings as of May 19, 2020.

Ankalaev was promoted against Paul Craig at UFC Fight Night: Werdum Vs. Volkov in March 2018. Ankalaev won the fight with clean striking and takedowns. Craig was even badly hurt by an Ankalaev body kick in round one. Craig took out Ankalaev in the third round with a triangle choke. This was his first professional loss.

Ankalaev was expected to face Darko Stošić on February 23, 2019 at UFC Fight Night 145. However, Stošić pulled out of the fight on January 23 citing injury. Ankalaev instead faced promotional newcomer Klidson Abreu. Ankalaev won the fight by unanimous decision.

Ankalaev faced Ion Cuțelaba on February 29, 2020 at UFC Fight Night 169. He won via a technical knockout in the first round. The win was not without controversy as referee Kevin MacDonald stopped the bout believing Cuțelaba was out on his feet while still standing, which Cuțelaba immediately protested. The stoppage was universally deemed terrible by the event announcers, MMA pundits, and UFC fighters alike. Moreover, the Virginia athletic commission is expected to review the controversial stoppage and they will decide if the result remains unchanged or if it is considered to change it to an overturned NC. Due to the controversy of the stoppage, UFC rebooked the pair on April 18, 2020 to meet at UFC 249.

After recovering from the loss, Ankalaev was scheduled for Marcin Prachnio’s fight on September 15, 2018, at UFC Fight Night: Hunt Vs. Oliynyk. After a slow start Ankalaev hit a right hook that knocked Prachnio down. He then got up only to be hit with a head kick followed by a punch, rendering him unconscious. Ankalaev won his first UFC victory and was awarded Performance of the Night.
