Luke Patten, born 9 January 1980, is an Australian referee. He was also a former professional rugby league footballer. He was a Country New South Wales representative fullback and played for the Illawarra Steelers and St George Illawarra Dragons, as well as the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in Australia. The Salford City Reds were his Super League counterparts. Patten was the 2004 NRL Premiership winner with the Bulldogs.
Patten was selected to play Country in the City match against Country Origin on 8 May 2009. Patten finished 19th in Game 3 for the New South Wales Blues, 2009.
Patten first showed interest in becoming a referee in 2011. In 2013 he became the first ex-player from the NRL era to officiate in a first grade grand final when he served as video referee for the 2013 NRL Grand Final.
In the 2004 NRL grand final win over cross-city rivals, Sydney Roosters, Patten was at fullback for Canterbury. In the 2005 World Club Challenge, Canterbury, 2004 NRL champions, faced Super League IX champions Leeds. Patten was at fullback, scoring a try in Canterbury’s 32-39 defeat.

Patten made his Illawarra grade debut in round 3 against Newcastle at WIN stadium. Patten was part of Illawarra’s last game as a stand-alone entity in round 24, 1998 against Canterbury-Bankstown at WIN Stadium. Patten scored two tries during a loss of 25-24. Illawarra and St. George formed a joint venture partnership at the end 1998 to become St. George Illawarra.
In the 1999 NRL Grand Final defeat to the Melbourne Storm, he played at fullback for St. George Illawarra. In 2001, he moved to Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
On 27 July 2010 it was confirmed that Patten would be moving to the Super League, linking up with English club Salford City Reds for 3 years from the 2011 season.
