Neil Roberts recommended Holden to the club. He joined Conference National side Wrexham for a trial, and signed a 93-day emergency loan agreement with the club. Holden made his debut on the 1st of February 2010 in a 2-1 win over Mansfield Town. Holden was not offered permanent club membership at the conclusion of the season. Holden joined Conference North side Droylsden in July 2010. He stayed there until he transferred to Chester in November 2011. There he was awarded Man of the Match for his first match.

After trials for Rochdale in the summer of 2012 he rejoined Formby early in the 2012/13 season. He then joined Warrington Town in September, making his debut on 29 September against Clitheroe. Within the first month at the club, he was sent-off twice in three games. His only goal for the club came on 20 October when he scored a penalty in a 7–2 victory over Goole.

In January 2012 he rejoined one of his former teams, The New Saints, on non- contract terms. He made one Welsh Premier League appearance for the club against Neath, before a few days later being released by the club.

Following Ken McKenna’s departure to the Northern Premier League Premier Division side Cammell Laird, he left The New Saints at season’s end. Before joining Rhyl in January 2009, he spent a short time at Bradford Park Avenue. Although he was injured, he still scored four goals in nine league starts. He also played in the Champions League qualifier matches against FK Partizan later in July 2009.

Holden began his career with Liverpool youth at age 6. He was then released by the club when he turned 12. After eighteen months with Everton’s youth team, Holden moved to Tranmere Rovers where he was a trainee. He was a Tranmere Rovers trainee and scored the two late goals that saw Bury lose the FA Youth Cup 2006. Holden was released in 2007 and signed for The New Saints, a Welsh Premier League team. He made 22 league starts and scored six goals. The team finished second in the 2007-08 season.

Holden couldn’t agree to personal terms, and a move to Football League Championship side Coventry City was stopped. Instead, Holden signed for League One team Charlton Athletic, on a three month loan deal. After a 2-1 defeat by Southampton in the Football League Trophy in which he made one appearance, Holden returned to Rhyl in January 2010.

His next move was to Formby where he played just two games before moving in late March to Gainsborough Trinity. Holden was not amongst those players retained at the end of the 2011–12 season and thus left the club.
