Bard was a student at Charlotte Christian School, Charlotte, North Carolina and Georgia Institute of Technology. He played college baseball with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He played college summer baseball for the Brewster Whitecaps, Cape Cod Baseball League in 2010 and 2011.
Bard was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the first round 2012 Major League Baseball draft. Bard signed with the Gulf Coast League Twins that year and made his professional debut the following season. He was then reassigned to Elizabethton Twins. He posted a 3.86 ERA in seven games played between the two teams. He pitched in 2013 for the GCL Twins and Elizabethton. His 3.86 ERA was recorded in seven games. Due to injury, he missed 2014 and 2015. Bard returned to Fort Myers in 2016, where he was 3-1 and had a 3.74 ERA. He also spent 44 relief appearances with the Chattanooga Lookouts. He was 4-3 in 2017, with a 2.76 ERA over 65.1 innings between the Lookouts’ and Rochester Red Wings.
