He also created the Astrolabium Gallileo Galilei wristwatch. It was listed in 1989 by the Guinness Book of World Records, as the most complicated watch ever made. Ochslin and Beat Weinman founded their own watch company Ochs und junior, Lucerne, Switzerland in 2006. Oechslin is currently a member the jury for multiple organizations and collaborates with universities like ETH Zurich, the Universite De Neuchatel.

Ludwig Oechslin got widely known for this restoration of the astronomical clock in the Vatican Library, known as the Farnese Clock, and for the time he spent as Director of the International Museum of Horology in La Chaux-de- Fonds, Switzerland (2011-2014). During this period, he managed the project leading to the release of the MIH watch by the International Museum of Horology.

Oechslin also created a replica the Antikythera Mechanism, and the very complicated astronomical Turler Clock. It was constructed by Jorg Sporing, a jeweler for Turler Uhren & Juwelen in Zurich, Switzerland, between 1986 and 1995. The Turler Clock is on display at the International Museum of Horology since 2018.

Ludwig Oechslin was a Gabicce Mare native. He began a degree in archaeology at University of Basel in 1972. He graduated in 1976. He was awarded a PhD degree in Philosophy in 1983, focusing on the history of Research. In addition, he was granted a scholarship to study theoretical Physics and Astronomy at the University of Bern. He also pursued a career as a watchmaker, earning a diploma in 1993. Oechslin was habilitated in Pre-Industrial Technical Archaeology (ETHZ) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich in 1995.

Oechslin began working for Ulysse Nadin in the 1980s. He developed many watches, including the Freak, which won international acclaim.
