Lucy Akello is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on October 9, 1980 in Uganda. Akello was born in Lamogi subcounty, Amuru District on the 9th of October 1980. John Obina is her father and a Kyambogo University lecturer.
Lucy Akello, a Ugandan politician and social worker, is the elected member for the Amuru District Women’s Constituency of the 10th Parliament (2016-2021). She is also a member the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and serves as shadow minister for labor, gender, and social development.
Betty Bigombe was the Amuru District Women’s Member of Parliament. She resigned in October 2014 to accept a position at the World Bank in Washington, DC. In December 2014, a special election was held to fill her vacant seat. Akello, who ran on the FDC political party ticket (opposition), beat seven other candidates to win. She ran again on the FDC ticket in the 2016 parliamentary elections. She spoke 30 times in the first year of the 10th parliament.

Akello was educated at Olwal Ocaja Primary school. She then attended Kyambogo Primary school for her Primary Leaving Certificate. Mary Immaculate Primary School Gulu, Lacor Primary School and Mary Immaculate Primary Schools Gulu were also attended by Akello. After her O-Level studies, she attended Iganga Secondary School and then went on to Uganda Martyrs Secondary School Namugongo where she received her A-Level education. In 2004, she was accepted to Makerere University in Kampala. She graduated with a Bachelor in Arts in Social Science. In 2011, she received a Master in Arts in Development Studies from Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi in Wakiso District.
She was hired in 2005 by Justice & Peace Commission, a non-governmental organization of the Catholic Church that promotes peace in war-torn Northern Uganda. From 2006 to 2014, she was the executive director. She started as a program officer and then became a program manager. Her main focus was on land rights, human rights and children’s issues.
