Civelli sustained a severe knee injury in a league match against Burnley at Portman Road on March 17, 2009. He was out of action for the rest of the 2008/09 season due to ruptured and torn knee ligaments. Later scans revealed that Civelli had suffered a very serious injury and would need surgery on two occasions. To determine the extent of his injury, Civelli had to have exploratory surgery. Civelli had surgery on his knee to repair the injured ligaments. Although the surgery was successful, Civelli would be out of work until at least 2010.

On 12 January 2009 Sky Sports News reported that Banfield had accepted a bid of £1 million from English Football League Championship side Ipswich Town.

On 7 February 2011, Civelli came on as a substitute in Ipswich’s 3–0 victory over Sheffield United. He left the club on 28 July 2011 after he and Ipswich agreed to terminate his contract.

Civelli, on 7 September 2009, admitted that his recovery from the injury was progressing well and that he was able to swim and run with the club’s trainer to strengthen his knee. Civelli stated that he expected to be playing first team football again before Christmas.

In 2006, Civelli was able to make his debut in the Banfield first team and became a regular member of the first team squad. Civelli was a member of the Argentinian team and scored eight goals in 68 games.

Officially signing for an undisclosed fee, his contract keeps him at Ipswich until summer 2012. He made his debut at Portman Road on 14 February 2009 in a 1–1 draw with Blackpool. He fast became a crowd favourite for his work-rate, effort and determination.
