Lucas Hartong, a Dutch politician, was born 24 May 1963. Between 22 June 2010 – 1 July 2014, he was a member in the European Parliament for Freedom. From 24 March 2014 to 1 July 2014, he was the leader of the PVV delegation.
He continued to work as a parliamentary assistant for the Party for Freedom in the European Parliament. Louis Bontes was elected as a Member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands on 22 June 2010. He was replaced by Hartong. Hartong was believed to have joined European Parliament before the Netherlands and Party for Freedom received an additional seat when the European Parliament increased its number of seats. Hartong was appointed to replace Bontes. However, the judicial proceedings were not completed. Hartong stated that he wanted to represent Christian voters in the European Parliament at the beginning of his term. Hartong claimed another area of concern would be fishery. He was surprised that the Dutch did not have a seat in the Committee on Fisheries. Hartong was critical in 2013 of European Parliament paid trips for journalists to the Parliament. The costs were approximately 700,000 euros in 2011. Hartong saw a link between pro-EU stories in media and paid trips.
