Luca Ceccarelli began his career at Fiorentina. At the age of 18, he made his Serie A debut in Internazionale’s match against Ceccarelli. He played 12 Serie A matches that season. In April 2002, he rejected an extension to his contract. On June 30, 2002, Ceccarelli signed with A.C. Milan. Emiliano Moretti, his teammate, joined Juventus the same day. However, the funds raised through these transfers were not sufficient to stop AC Fiorentina from going bankrupt that year.
Ceccarelli was unable to make it into Internazionale’s first team so he spent his time on loan. In August 2002, he was loaned by Venezia of Serie B and Fermana (Serie C1) in January 2003. He was loaned to Spezia (Serie B) and Pro Patria in the subsequent seasons. He joined Catanzaro (Serie B) in the 2005-06 season. He was re-entered Serie C1 in 2006-07 to play for Lucchese. He returned to Spezia in summer 2007 and played again in Serie B.
Ceccarelli returned to Spezia again on 3 July 2013 on a two-year contract. On 31 January 2014 he left for Siena to boost the chance of promotion back to Serie A. On 20 January 2015 he was signed by Catania.
