Lu Kun-chi is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on February 6, 1985 in Tainan, Taiwan. Lu Kun- chi, (Chinese Lu Kun Qi / pinyin Lu Kunqi ), is a Taiwanese goalkeeper. He was born in Tainan County (now Tainan City), Republic of China on 6 February 1985. He is known as Taiwanese Buffon (Tai Wan Pu Feng), and is the first choice goalkeeper for the Chinese Taipei national soccer team.

Lu and Chen Po-liang flew to Japan for trainings with Yokohama F. Marinos in October 2006.

After returning to Taiwan, Lu was back to the National Taiwan College of Physical Education football team (as Molten Tso I) during the Enterprise Football League 2008 season. Then Lu served military service in National Sports Training Center football team and joined Taiwan Power Company F.C. afterwards.

Masakazu Suzuki, a former manager at J. Jubilo Iwata was invited to Taiwan in June 2005 to present lectures and give selection tests to the talented young people of Taiwan. Lu failed the test because he was too anxious to maintain his pace. He traveled to Japan one month later with the support of his Taiwan PE College professor Chao Jungjui to take the training tests offered by JEF United Ichihara Chiba and Yokohama FC. He was not able to get his position in either club.

Lu made his Chinese Taipei senior squad debut against Palestine on October 14, 2004, during 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification. He was soon a regular member of the national team due to his outstanding performance. He has been the first choice goalkeeper in Chinese Taipei since then. He was also a good performer in the domestic league. He was voted the best goalkeeper in the Chinese Taipei National Football League 2005 season, when he plays for National Taiwan College of Physical Education.

At 14 years old, his height was 180 cm (5 ft 11in). He was expected to be included in Chinese Taipei’s U-15 squad. However, he wasn’t. After years of waiting, he told the press that he had decided to enter the Chinese Taipei youth team within three years. He was guided by Hung Chin Chang, the Pei Men goalkeeper coach. It took him only two years to realize his dream. At age 17, he was called up to the Chinese Taipei U-21, U-23 and U-23 teams. He then made it to the senior team in 2004, at the age of 18.

After two months of waiting, although there was no update from Yokohama, Lu received an invitation from Grulla Morioka of the Japanese regional Tohoku League. He became the first Taiwanese male footballer to join a Japanese professional football club. On March 4, 2007, a press conference was held, and Grulla Morioka formally announced their signings of Lu and his compatriot Chuang Wei-lun, albeit the latter suddenly returned to Taiwan and failed to contract with the club afterwards. Lu’s contract was confirmed on March 9, and he was assigned the number 22 shirt. On June 10, Lu made his debut for Grulla in the game against Furukawa Battery F.C., of which he substituted Kazuya Obara after 83 minutes. However, he was unable to prove himself and sidelined from first-team action. With Grulla Morioka’s failure in the year-end JFL promotion tournament, Lu returned to Taiwan in December.
