The jurors became increasingly demanding in the subsequent phases. They selected only those girls who were truly able to take on the role of popstar and made them more selective. Only 8 girls qualified for the final stage, which took place at home to the Popstars after five qualifying rounds. The Brazilian girl group was formed by Andrade and Li Martins, Karin Hils, Aline Wirley and Fantine Tho after the sixth and final eliminatory rounds. The homonym Rouge was also released that year. It reached the top spot and sold around 2 million copies. Fantine Tho received the certificate of diamond. Luciana Andrade was born September 18, 1978 in Varginha. She is better known as Lu Andrade. She won the talent contest Popstars in 2002 and was part of the Brazilian girl band Rouge from 2002 to 2004, where she recorded two of the four studio albums Rouge (2002) and C’est La Vie (2004). She quit the band in 2004 citing a lack of identification with the group’s musical style. The group sold 6 million copies and was the most popular girl group in Brazil. It also sold more than twenty times as many copies around the globe.
At the age of 19, Luciana started dating Leonardo Pereira, a photographer. It began studying advertising at the University Center of the South of Minas in 1999, but left it after the sixth semester. In 2001, she and her boyfriend decided to move to Sao Paulo to study music. They were awarded a full scholarship at the Conservatory Souza Peru Lima and they lived in a republic together with ten other musicians. At the time the press revealed that one of the reasons was also that the members received only R$ 500 per show of all the fee charged, valued at R$ 100 thousand, while the rest was for the managers. Along with the Rouge, it sold around 6 million copies among all the material. An album in Spanish language was being recorded to launch the group in the market of Latin America, but with the exit of Luciana, the project was canceled.
