Nippierd began working with aluminum in 1994. She was immediately fascinated by the many possibilities it offered due to its light weight, and its ability to be anodized to color it. Her Master’s Degree was devoted to this medium and she has gained a reputation internationally for her large anodized aluminum body-sculptures. Nippierd uses imitation fur as an art material to express her opposition to cruelty in the fur trade.

Louise Nippierd was raised in England. She moved to Norway in 1967 with her Norwegian journalist mother, and her English father. Her father was a Commander with the Royal Navy and served a three-year contract with NATO in Baerum. Nippierd was a student at St. George’s British School, Baerum for her first two years. Her three siblings remained in England and continued their education at various boarding schools. The family decided to remain in Norway in 1969. Nippierd began at Smestad Primary school in Oslo. There, several members of the Norwegian Royal Family including King Harald V, Crown Prince Haakon Magnus and others were also pupils.
Nippierd completed a course in goldsmithing at the Elvebakken videregaende Skele College in 1990. In 1991, she enrolled at the Metal Department of the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry (now Oslo National Academy of the Arts). She received a Master’s degree in 1996. In 1996, Nippierd founded the studio community NB 13. She shared it with Andrew J. Barton for ten years. Nippierd taught anodizing aluminum courses at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts between 1997 and 2005.
