She was co-anchor on WABC TV’s Eyewitness News This Morning with Ken Rosato from April 2000 to August 2017. Stokes joined the station to boost ratings for WABC’s morning newscast. She helped to bring the broadcast up to #1.

Stokes was paired up with Robb Hanrahan, who at the time co-anchored 5 p.m. news with RozAbrams and previously co-anchored morning news. The new anchors, Nancy Loo and David Ushery were replaced by the pair. However, they did not perform as well as WABC had hoped. Hanrahan was removed from the morning news and replaced by Steve Bartelstein, WABC-TV’s weekend anchor for sports.

For a brief time in 2003, Stokes was removed from the noon newscast and replaced with Sade Baderinwa. Stokes resumed anchoring the noon newscast when Roz Abrams left the station and was replaced by Baderinwa.

From Tuesday, March 13, 2007, to Wednesday, July 4, 2007, (Independence Day), Stokes was the sole anchor of Eyewitness News This Morning and Eyewitness News at Noon. She was joined by a rotating roster of reporters from March until July when reporter Ken Rosato was chosen to permanently replace Steve Bartelstein. Rosato officially took over on July 9, 2007, as her morning and noon co-anchor.

Stokes was a reporter for the cable TV station and covered the Columbine High School Massacre as well as the death of John F. Kennedy Jr.

Stokes started her journalistic career in 1986 as a medical reporter, then became a weekend co-anchor at WCIA Champaign-Urbana in Illinois. In 1988, Stokes was a reporter for WBTV, Charlotte, North Carolina. She was popular among viewers of that state for her two-year stint.
