Dolores Ayala Nieto (born May 20, 1951) is a Mexican journalist, philanthropist and journalist. In the 1970s, she began her television journalism career. This was at a time in Mexico when there were no women in charge of informational or news programs. She was invited to host a segment on the popular news program 24 Horas in 1974 by Jacobo Zabludovsky. He became her mentor. She became the main anchor for her news program El Noticiero con Lolita, which she has hosted since 1987. She also produces health information videos for television. She is a member in good of ten charitable/social organizations. The most significant of these are Solo por Ayudar, which she founded in 1985, and Comite Pro Animal, which she co-founded with her husband in 1992.
Ayala began her journalism career at Teleperiodico. She was part of the Notimex agency and worked with them for 16 years. 1971 was the first time she appeared on TV, on Channel 8 in Mexico City. In Mexico, there was no woman who ran a news or information program at that time. She worked with news programs like “En Punto” or “En contacto direo” from 1972 to 1974, as well as other types of programs like “Adivine me chamba” and “Cada noche.”
In 1987, Zabludovsky retired and then president of Televisa Miguel Alemán Velasco offered Ayala the head anchor position for a news show originally called Muchas noticias, later renamed El Noticiero con Lolita Ayala. This made her the first woman head anchor of an information show in Mexico. The show has been on the air since airing Monday to Friday for a half-hour in the afternoons. It is considered one of the most prestigious news shows. She has worked for Televisa for over forty years.
