She placed third in the state in the javelin as a senior and graduated with a 4.00 GPA and ranked first in her class. Tom also earned the Gatorade Player of the Year awards for volleyball in 1999. In 2000, she became the youngest woman to ever be selected for the USA Olympic volleyball team at 19.
