Subeck joined five other Alders in calling on Solomon, a fellow Alder, to resign from allegations that he had sexually harassed or assaulted an assistant city clerk in January 2012. The city’s civil right office concluded that there was no evidence that Solomon had sexually harassed or assaulted the assistant city clerk. Solomon was still in office.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Subeck graduated from Rich Central High School. She then graduated from University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1993, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Prior to her election to the State Assembly, she worked as the Executive Director of United Wisconsin. Before that, she worked as the Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin; as a Program Coordinator for the YWCA’s housing and homelessness programs; and as a Program Manager with the Head Start and Early Head Start program.

On November 4, 2014, Subeck was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly as a Democrat. She won a Democratic Primary against fellow City Council member Mark Clear before running uncontested in the general election. Subeck was reelected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2016 and again in 2018.

Subeck was elected to her Madison Common Council first term in April 2011, defeating Brian Driscoll with 2573 votes to 1 1837 (58% to 41%). The race was won by Subeck, who was the only incumbent. She was previously running in 2005 for the same post and lost to Jed Sanborn in April’s general election, 1033 votes to 714 (45% to 41%).

Subeck and Matthew Phair, Aldermen, introduced a series budget amendments in 2011 to address the Southwest Madison section’s crime, gangs and drug violence. Budget amendments included $30,000 to cover overtime police officers as part of a community safety program, $900,000. for the purchase and rehabilitation a vacant restaurant building, funding for a spray-park, and $60,000 to provide additional building inspectors for neighborhoods in need. The majority of these items were approved in the 2012 budget. In 2014, Elver Park was transformed into a spray park. After two years of negotiations the City of Madison bought the former Griff’s restaurant. It is currently developing plans to use it for youth training and employment.

In 2013, Subeck worked with the Mayor to lead an effort to pass new campaign finance disclosure rules that exceed what is required by state law, requiring corporations and other entities making independent expenditures to disclose not only their campaign spending but also their donors who contributed to expenditures for or against a candidate in a city election.
