Lisa Olsen is one of the most popular and richest Athlete who was born on October 7, 1956 in Canada. Female sportswriters were often harassed, discriminated against, and intimidated from the beginning of the 1970s when more women entered the field of sportswriting. While working for the Boston Herald in 1990, Olson claimed that she was sexually harassed at the locker room by New England Patriots footballers. Olson sued the team. The NFL fined the implicated players after an investigation. Many consider the incident a turning point in women’s sports journalism. Olson settled a civil lawsuit, but fans of the team threatened Olson’s safety. Olson was offered a transfer by the Boston Herald to Australia where she would be working for the Daily Telegraph in Sydney.
After Olson complained, describing the experience as a “mind rape”, team owner Victor Kiam allegedly described her as a “classic bitch.” (He later apologized in a newspaper ad, while denying using crude language. Later he admitted to calling her a “classy bitch.”) Later, on February 4, 1991, at a male-only sports banquet in Stamford, Connecticut, Kiam told the attendees a crude joke about the incident. Referring to the United States military’s use of Patriot missiles during the then-ongoing Gulf War, Kiam said to the audience: “What do the Iraqis have in common with Lisa Olson? They’ve both seen Patriot missiles up close.” After criticism, Kiam apologized for the joke two days after he had told it.
In 1998, Olson returned to the United States to be with her gravely ill father and took a position with the New York Daily News.
She moved to the East Coast after graduating from college to go to graduate school. However, she chose to pursue a career as a sportswriter. She went unannounced to the Boston Herald one day and applied for a job. She had previously tried the same thing at The Boston Globe but was unable to get past security. The Herald editor offered her a job as a horse-racing agate handler. Her supervisors were impressed and she was hired by the paper as a sports journalist. She was assigned to cover Boston Bruins, 1990 Super Bowl and, starting in the fall 1990, the New England Patriots.

Olson was raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Her family was avid sports fans. She graduated from Northern Arizona University’s Journalism program in 1987. She was both the college and high school sports editor.
Olson was conducting interviews with players in the Patriots locker rooms on a practice day, September 17, 1990. Two Patriots had earlier complained to James Oldham (team’s director for media relations) and Pat Sullivan (team’s general manager) that Olson was “a looker”, someone who stood in the locker room without interviewing anyone. Sullivan observed Olson, and concluded that she was acting professionally by interviewing Maurice Hurst. However, Sullivan did not take any other actions. A number of players taunted Olson by walking naked in front of her and making vulgar comments. Zeke Mowatt, one of the players, “fondled” his genitals in front her. Robert Perryman did the exact same thing while she was looking at him. Michael Timpson and others made jokes, and encouraged each other.
On April 25, 1991, Olson filed a lawsuit in Massachusetts state court against the Patriots, Kiam, Sullivan, Oldham, and the three players (Mowatt, Timpson, and Perryman), alleging violations of her civil rights, sexual harassment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and intentional damage to her professional reputation. On February 24, 1992, her attorney said that Olson had settled the lawsuit on undisclosed terms.
