Lisa Frances Ondieki, also known as O’Dea and formerly Martin, is an Australian long-distance runner. She won two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and the 1988 Olympic silver medal in the marathon. She also won the 1988 Osaka International Ladies Marathon, and the 1992 New York City Marathon. She won the Great North Run Half Marathon 3 times. In 1988, she ran 2:23:51 for the marathon, which was her best time. This made her the fourth fastest female marathon runner.
In the Tokyo Half Marathon in January 1992, she placed second, with a lifetime record of 68.33. This was in contrast to McColgan’s 67.11. She ran her 10,000m best ever in June, finishing 31:11.72 in Helsinki. This time was second in the world for 1992. Only Derartu Tulu, the Olympic champion, ran faster (31:06). Despite being one of the favourites for the gold medal, she did not finish the marathon at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She won the New York City Marathon three months later. Her course record of 2:24.40 would stand for nine years. She competed for the first-time in the London Marathon in 1993. They lost to Katrin Dorre of Germany in a highly anticipated head-to-head. McColgan was second, and Ondieki third. She finished second in London to Dorre again in 1994.
Martin was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2000, she received an Australian Sports Medal. In 2014, she was inducted into the Athletics Australia Hall of Fame.
In 1988, she won her fastest ever marathon in Osaka. She ran 2:23:51. This made her fourth-fastest female marathon runner behind Rosa Mota, Joan Benoit, and Ingrid Kristiansen. She won a silver medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, finishing 13 seconds behind Mota. She retained her Commonwealth marathon title at Auckland Games in January 1990. She finished seven minutes faster than Tani Ruckle, her silver medallist Australian teammate. Her Games record time of 2:25.28 is still in place as of 2014. After she divorced Martin, she married Yobes Ondieki, a Kenyan distance runner. She missed the remainder of that season because of pregnancy. They gave birth to their daughter in November 1990. She finished third in the New York Marathon’s 1991 Top Three, a race won and won by Liz McColgan from Scotland.

She was born Lisa O’Dea, in Gawler (South Australia), and attended Gawler High School. She was originally a 400-meter hurdler. Although initially reluctant to start running, she won her first competition in marathons, the Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville USA, in 1983. She was almost five minutes faster than the Australian record, with a time of 2:32.22. As Lisa Martin, she was seventh in the 1984 inaugural women’s Olympic marathon. Her sub-2:30 marathon time of 2:29.03 was her first. She finished second in Chicago Marathon three months later with a personal best of 2:27.40.
She competed at the 1985 Pittsburgh Marathon with her husband, American distance runner Ken Martin. They became the fastest married couple to complete a marathon, winning the women’s and men’s races in 2:12;57 and 2:31,54, respectively. She finished second in the New York City Marathon that year behind Greta Waitz. In a personal record of 2:26.07, she won the gold medal at the 1986 Commonwealth Games Edinburgh marathon. Lorraine Moller from New Zealand was second. In a personal record of 69.45, she won her first Great North Run Half Marathon title a month later. In the New York Marathon, she finished second to Waitz for the 1986 season. Moller finished second in 1987 Osaka marathon. She then failed to complete the 1987 World Championship marathon in Rome.
In 1996, now divorced from Ondieki, she ran her fastest marathon time for three years with 2:30:57 in Osaka, to earn selection for her fourth and final Olympics. At the 1996 Atlanta Games, she failed to finish.
