Lim Soon Seng is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on December 2, 1976 in Singapore. Bernard Lim Soon Seng (Chinese Lin Shun Cheng; pinyin Lin Shuncheng; born 2/12/1976) is an ex-Singapore international footballer who was a right wingback for Tanjong Pagar United, in the S.League.
Lim was first called up to the Singapore squad in May 1998 for a training camp. He was then named in the 1998 AFF Championship squad three months later. In the 28th minute of Aide Iskandar’s group stage match victory over Malaysia, he made his international debut. He assisted Ahmad Latiff Khamaruddin in scoring Singapore’s second goal with 39 minutes remaining. He was on the pitch in the 84th minute of the final as Singapore beat Vietnam to win the AFF Championship, their first international title. Lim was substituted five times during the tournament.
His club form led to a call up to the Singapore national team for the 1998 AFF Championship in which he made his international debut against Malaysia in the opening group match. Singapore defeated Vietnam in the final to win their first international trophy.
He was named in the 25-man provisional squad for the Dunhill Cup in Vietnam from 29 January to 7 February 1999, but had to withdraw from the squad after his motorbike accident.
Lim made his S.League debut on March 29, 1997, ten days after making his reserve league debut. He played in the 81st minutes of an away draw against Geylang United. He was replaced in central defense by the injured Singaporean international S. Subramani towards the end of the season. After Subramani’s return, he switched to right back and impressed Robert Alberts enough to keep his spot as first-choice rightback. The club finished 1997 as the second- placed team in the S.League behind Singapore Armed Forces.

Lim began playing competitive football in 1994 after he met Robert Lim, Tiong Bahru CSC youth coaches. He then joined the National Football League club. As a centre-back, he was captain of the reserve team of the newly renamed S.League club Tiong Bahru United. Lim Tong Hai, the first team captain (no relation), gave him his name “Bernard” to differentiate the two Lims.
Lim started playing competitive football in 1994 when he joined Tiong Bahru. In 1997, Lim made his S.League debut and was a first-teamer by the next year. He was the winner of the Singapore Cup and Singapore FA Cup doubles with Tanjong Pagar United, which was renamed Tanjong Pagar United. In 1998, he finished as league runners-up in 1997 and 1998. He was named the 1998 S.League Young Player of the Year for his achievements.
Lim established himself as a first-team player for the renamed Tanjong Pagar United in the 1998 season. The club ended as league runners-up to Singapore Armed Forces on goal difference but achieved a Singapore Cup and Singapore FA Cup double. In the same year, Lim was honoured as the S.League Young Player of the Year. His performances led to a call-up to the Singapore national team.

On 16 June 2002, Lim was arrested for alleged disorderly behaviour and assaulting a police officer. His playing contract was terminated by Tampines Rovers and he was sacked from his logistics administrator job at the club chairman’s company. Lim received an eight-week prison sentence in July 2002.
