He was a former professional footballer from France who played as a forward. He was capped seven times between 1997 and 1999 and scored three goals for France’s national team. In 2008, he retired from professional football at OGC Nice.

Bordeaux brought Bordeaux’s striker back to Bordeaux at the start of the 2004-05 Season. He was at the place where he had previously found glory, but as he grew older, he lost his former form. In 41 starts, Bordeaux only scored nine goals.

Laslandes was born in Pauillac, Gironde. He started his professional career at the rather late age of 20, starting at the club Saint-Seurin in which he scored 10 goals in his 33 appearances for the club. AJ Auxerre took notice of his talent and acquired him following the season. He went on to make 125 appearances (20 of them played at European level) for the club and scored 47 goals – of which two were scored in European cups.

In 2003, Laslandes briefly returned to Sunderland for pre-season training under Mick McCarthy. All parties were able to agree that he was not a future employee at Sunderland. Despite the efforts of chairman Bob Murray to secure a transfer payment for the ex-French international, Sunderland’s crippling debts and Laslandes’ Premiership wages put Murray in a weak negotiation position. Laslandes was then released from his contract, and he joined OGC Nice, a French first division club, at the beginning of the 2003-04 season.

Laslandes moved to Girondins de Bordeaux as a free transfer, on the 1st of August 1997. His outstanding scoring record was what attracted him to the club. He scored 47 goals in 119 games for the club. The consistent goalscoring ability of the Frenchman, which included some from England, Germany, and Spain, was starting to attract attention from foreign clubs.

Peter Reid arrived in June 2001 and found a replacement to Niall Quinn. The powerful Frenchman was the subject of a lot of media attention as the club paid PS3.6m to sign him. However, he struggled with adapting to the speed of the English Premiership and Sunderland’s direct football style. The relationship between Laslandes and Peter Reid was also irretrievably strained. Peter Reid cut his losses after 12 league appearances without goals and one in League Cup against Sheffield Wednesday. Laslandes was soon shipped to Germany in January 2002. He was loaned to FC Koln, where he played five games without scoring. This earned him the pejorative nickname “LasLandesliga”. He was then loaned to Bastia, a French club in the first division. In 30 matches, he scored eight goals.

On 5 January 2007, Laslandes signed for his former club Nice for an undisclosed fee. He was released in the summer of 2008. He then decided to become a handball player for Girondins de Bordeaux, and retire from professional football.
