Random House published Yuknavitch’s first short story collection, Verge, on February 4, 2020. Yuknavitch read one of the stories, “Street Walker,” on the December 10, 2019, episode of the Lit Hub/Podglomerate Storybound podcast, accompanied by original musical composition from the band Whiston & Warmack.
Yuknavitch’s memoir, The Chronology of Water (2011), has gained a large following. A Huffington Post book review noted that the book keeps “keeps popping up” on social media and blogs two years after it was published. After talking with Chuck Palahniuk at the end of a meeting, she said that the book was a dare. Yuknavitch borrowed the title from a short story she wrote during a workshop with Diana Abu-Jaber. The book jacket’s cover photo shows a naked woman swimming in the water. Yuknavitch and her publisher decided to wrap the book with a “belly band” to cover the woman’s breasts. Yuknavitch wrote in The Rumpus about this decision.
