Leonid Telyatnikov is one of the most popular and richest Firefighter who was born on January 25, 1951 in Vvedenka, Kazakhstan. Leonid Petrovich Telyatnikov (Ukrainian: Leonid Petrovich Teliatnikov 25 Jan 1951 to 2 Dec 2003) was the chief of the department of fire in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. He directed the firefighter team to battle the explosion at reactor number 4 , which led to the Chernobyl catastrophe. Despite the risks of radiation there were none of the radiation suit, respirators, and no dosimeters that worked. According to the results of a blood test, it was found that he was exposed to four grams of radiation.

On the 25th of April, 2006, the 20th anniversary of Chernobyl disaster, a memorial is dedicated in Kyiv’s Baykove Cemetery in Kyiv in Kyiv, where he was interred.

Telyatnikov continued to serve within his position in the Ministry of the Interior of the USSR and after the demise of the Soviet Union, in Ukraine. The year 1998 was the time Telyatnikov was the head of the fire service volunteer in Kyiv and created his own “Junior Firefighter” program. He died from cancer at 53. His death was linked to radiation exposure. it is reported that he was one of the victims of the Chernobyl catastrophe.

He arrived at the reactor site about 10 minutes after the firemen had begun their battle and he then took overall command. He climbed onto the roof of Reactor Unit 3. Although there were at least five fires on the roof, the reactor was still operating. The priorities of the firemen were clear — they had to extinguish the fires on the roof of the undamaged reactor and in the machine hall. They used mainly water to do this. Despite their efforts, they could not prevent the fire from spreading before the Kiev fire brigade arrived to replace them.
