Leon Townley (born 16 February 1976) is an English semi-professional football player who has retired most well-known for his time with Brentford within the Football League between 1997 and 1999. Following his departure, Townley moved into non-league football before retiring from the senior league in 2005.

In the years 2001-2009 Townley was a member of between 2001 and 2009, Townley played in the Isthmian League, the Southern League and the Hertfordshire Senior County League for Aldershot Town, St Albans City, Windsor & Eton, Boreham Wood, Hitchin Town and Debden Sports.

Townley was signed by Isthmian League Premier Division club Slough Town on a one-month loan on the 23rd of August and was extended to a permanent position at the end of September. The player was a constant presence. Townley played a total of 48 appearances across every competition during the 1999-00 season , scoring four goals. Townley played 33 times in the 2000-01 season, and quit the club following its fall into the Isthmian League First Division in May 2001. Townley had a total 81 appearances in his time playing at Arbour Park and scored four goals.

Townley began his professional career as a student in the Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in 1992. He then signed an official contract in the year 1994 at 18. Townley was given his first call to the first team during Spurs in 1995’s Intertoto Cup campaign, though Townley was unable to play and was a non-participant in the infamous 8-0 loss to 1. FC Koln in July 1995. Townley quit White Hart Lane in 1997 having failed to break into the first squad.

On the 18th of September, 1997 Townley became a member of Second Division club Brentford with a three-year deal for a fee of PS25,000 which increased to a maximum of PS55,000 based on appearances. Townley made his debut on the following day by making an appearance in an 1-1 draw in the league at home against Wycombe Wanderers. His first Brentford goals in a 3-1 victory over Blackpool on the 13th of December in 1997. He scored his debut following 2 Blackpool players were dismissed after the hour mark. He followed that up by scoring another goal within the final minute of the match in the 78th. He was not in favour with coach Micky Adams at the beginning of January, and ended the 1997-98 campaign in the 19th position, scoring just three times. After Brentford’s demotion into the Third Division in May 1998 the new coach Ron Noades elected to transfer-list Townley in the off-season of 1998. He did not play a single game in the Bees 1998-1999 Third Division title-winning season and instead, played in reserves. Townley was released from the Bees in September of 1999, after his contract was terminated through mutual agreement.
