Leo Rytis Rautins (born March 20th 1960) is a Canadian broadcaster Former professional basketball player and director of the Canadian men’s national basketball team. Rautins was part of the National Basketball Association (NBA) selected in the first round in the 1983 NBA draft to be taken by the Philadelphia 76ers. Rautins’ NBA career was ended by an injury. After a brief break the player returned to basketball and was a part of European professional competitions starting in 1985 to 1992. He was a broadcaster of Toronto Raptors since the start of their season. After his retirement from the sport, Rautins became a basketball commentator, particularly for his team the Toronto Raptors since their inaugural season in

In February 2005, Rautins was named head coach of the Canadian National Team. The team did not qualify for the 2008 Olympics, but did qualify for the 2010 World Championship. He resigned from that position in September 2011, after Canada lost to Panama in the FIBA Americas Tournament.

Rautins later quit the NBA and returned to Syracuse and worked in television and radio broadcasts. He was an announcer at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) during the 1984 Olympics. After 1985 Rautins was back in basketball and moved to Europe. Rautins was a player for Italy with Serie A1 team Banco Roma (1985-1986) as well as Serie A2 team Citrosil Verona (1986-1987) and during the time in France alongside Pau Orthez (1989-90 and 1992) as well as with Pau Orthez in Spain (1991-92). Rautins later resigned from the sport. At this point Rautins had undergone an average of 14 knee surgeries.

Rautins was a standout in Toronto’s high school St. Michael’s School. In 1977, aged 16 he was selected for the Canadian senior national team. He averaged just seven minutes per session, 1.5 points, 1 assist, 1.2 rebounds, and 0.7 turnovers. In September 1984 the team traded him for the Indiana Pacers for a third-round selection in order to free up Charles Barkley under the salary cap. He eventually signed an unrestricted free agent by the Atlanta Hawks. He only played in four games with the Hawks and averaged just three minutes per game and was then released on November 14, 1984. Rautins played for other NBA teams as well as in the Continental Basketball Association but was unsuccessful in securing a spot with a different team.

In 1997, Rautins was inducted into the Canada Basketball Hall of Fame.
