As of the end of 2007 Aleksishvili was appointed Chairperson of the Board, Policy and Management Consulting Group (PMCG). Between February and December 2008, he served as a member of the executive board for Kala Capital LLC, an investment firm, and was in charge of the creation the company Progress Bank JSC. From September 2007 to March 2008, he was in charge of the implementation of financial and monetary policy as a board member for the National Bank of Georgia. In June 2010 , he was a panelist and a presenter at the regional gathering “Introduction to Identification and Management of Financial Risks for Energy Projects”, Vienna, Austria hosted by the International Atomic Energy Agency. He was a panelist as well as a speaker at Eurasia Emerging Markets Forum, Thun, Switzerland.

Aleksishvili was elected chairman of the UN Commission for Sustainable development during 2005-2006. In his time as chairman the 14th session UN CSD was held. UN CSD focused on progress in Energy for Sustainable Development, Climate Change, Air Pollution and Industrial Development.

As Ministry of Finance of Georgia, Aleksishvili successfully implemented reforms in the Public Finance, Tax and Customs Policy and Administration, Economic Deregulation and Liberalisation areas. Georgia was recognized according to the World Bank “Doing Business” survey as the top reformer nation in 2005-10. In the time (2004-2007), Georgia improved from 132nd position to 18th in the list for “Ease of Doing Business” by the World Bank. He carried out Tax and Customs reforms: reduction of the number of tax burdens from 22 to seven and cutting the tax burden for the entire country from 45 up to 27 percent of the GDP while increasing the rate of tax compliance from 13 percent to 25% of GDP. He implemented one of the most simple tax system within the area. Foreign Direct Investment increased from 250 million USD in 2004 to 2,100 million USD by 2007. The growth in GDP was greater than 9% per year.
