Leigh Meghan Kasperek (born 15 February 1992) is a Scottish cricketer who is a player internationally for the New Zealand national team. She was previously a member of the Scottish national team before moving into New Zealand in order to compete at a higher standard.
Kasperek was not a huge success during her debut year playing in New Zealand, with her eight games yielding just 86 runs and one wicket. In 2013 she joined her team, the Otago Sparks (based in Dunedin) and was able to record two half- centuries. Kasperek was more impressive with her bowling skills, taking 18 wickets in the final season as the top wicket-taker in the competition with figures of 6/8 during a game against Canterbury. In the following season, she took 15 wickets, making her Otago’s top wicket-taker and fourth-best in the competition. She also improved her batting, making 313 runs and placing second only to Suzie Bates of Otago (and 10th at the time of competition).
In a Twenty20 International against Australia in February 2016, Kasperek took 4/7 from three overs. Amy Satterthwaite is the only New Zealander to take better figures.
In August 2018, she was awarded a central contract by New Zealand Cricket, following the tours of Ireland and England in the previous months. In October 2018, she was named in New Zealand’s squad for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies. She was the leading wicket-taker for New Zealand in the tournament, with eight dismissals in four matches.
In the 2011-12 season, Kasperek was signed by the Western Fury, a team of the Australia’s Women’s Cricket League (WNCL) and also played in club cricket with Midland-Guildford. In 2012, for the County Championship season, she changed between Scotland to Essex however later in the year , she played in one final international match which was that of the European Twenty20 Qualifier in Ireland. After being named the Essex’s player of year at the end of the year, Kasperek joined the Wellington Blaze, which plays in the New Zealand State League.

In Edinburgh, Kasperek made her senior debut for Scotland at 15 years old, she was playing in the national team of Scotland with English county teams at the County Challenge Cup. Her international debut was after the season when she played against Ireland as well as The Netherlands during the European Championship. In the spring of the year 2008 Kasperek got selected for Scotland’s team to play in the 2007 World Cup Qualifier in South Africa. Kasperek played in four of the possible five games however, she had a poor performance with only scoring four runs, but not taking wicket in her ten innings, and giving up 57 runs.
Over the next couple of decades, Kasperek was able to establish herself Scotland’s most effective all-rounders. One of her most memorable performances was against Hampshire during this year’s County Championship, when she got 3/2 from just six overs in order to beat Hampshire to 76. In the following year, in the match against England and the Netherlands during the 2009 European Championship, she scored the first half-century of her career for Scotland with a score of 58 off 106 balls (including 135-run team along with Kari Anderson). In the 2010 County Championship season, Kasperek recorded 218 runs over 10 games, which was just behind Kathryn White for Scotland. Her most impressive performance was a score of 68 against Hampshire in the County Championship, which was her only half-century.
After three seasons in the New Zealand domestic competition, Kasperek met the ICC qualifications for representing the national team, although that had not been a specific goal of hers when she first moved there. In May 2015, she was unexpectedly named in the squad for the 2015 tour of India. Kasperek went on to play in every game on the tour, which comprised five One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International matches. On debut in the first ODI, she took 3/39 from 10 overs. Later in 2015, against the touring Sri Lankans, Kasperek took 4/27, her maiden ODI four-wicket haul.
