Lee Wilkie (born 20 April 1980) is an Scottish former professional footballer who was a central defensive defender. Wilkie played the majority of his time in Dundee and Dundee United, where he played in the clubs of Dundee as well as Dundee United. Wilkie began his career with Dundee with over 100 appearances for Dundee’s Scottish Premier League. He earned eleven Scotland cap internationals between 2002 and 2003 during the time of Berti Vogts. In the following year, Wilkie suffered a string of knee injuries that caused Wilkie being dismissed by Dundee in August of 2006. Wilkie later signed with Dundee United and he again regularly played for a short time however, ongoing knee issues caused him to retire from soccer in the month of April.

Despite the interest of various clubs Wilkie made it clear that he would offer the his first option on an agreement to the team that he has admired for all of his career, Dundee United. In October of 2006 it was announced the fact that Dundee United would offer Wilkie the option of a pay-as-you-play contract. Wilkie’s appointment confirmed on October 2006.

Wilkie was offered a return to international football in November 2007 through the Scotland B team, but he declined selection because he needed more games to be ready to compete at international level. After playing regularly for the whole of season 2007–08 and completing pre-season training for 2008–09 without any serious injury problems, Wilkie said he wanted to be selected. A recall never came, however, leaving him with a total of 11 caps.

Following his spell at Ross County, Wilkie returned to Dundee United and played in a 1–0 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on 20 January 2007. After the match, Wilkie cast doubt on his future at Tannadice by expressing doubts over his ability to play in the SPL due to his ongoing injury and fitness issues, and stated he will review his situation in the near future. Wilkie, like defensive colleagues David McCracken and Lee Mair, was to be out of contract at the end of 2006–07, but signed a two-year deal in March 2007 to take him to summer 2009.

In early November 2006, the new coach Craig Levein stated his intention to take Wilkie to loan “about a month”, believing that Lee wasn’t “not ready to play first-team matches at this [SPL] level.” In December 2006, however, Lee joined Scottish First Division club Ross County on a one-month loan contract.

Prior to his injuries, Wilkie was a regular for Wilkie was a regular in the Scottish nation’s team. Wilkie was handed his first international appearance by Berti Vogts during the Reunification Cup match against South Africa in May 2002. His sole international goal earned him the Scots a 2-1 win against Iceland on Hampden on March 3, 2003. Wilkie’s final appearance on the international stage was not a pleasant experience when the Scots were defeated 6-0 in a match against Netherlands during November of 2003. Wilkie had been with city rivals Dundee for his entire professional career, having ended his contract with them in August 2006. During his time at Dens Park, he had short loan spells in England with Plymouth Argyle and Notts County, plus nine games with Falkirk.
