Lee Turnbull (born 27 September 1967) is an English former footballer who was able to play in attacking or midfield. He is currently the Head for Recruitment of Scunthorpe United.
Turnbull quit professional full-time football after sustaining an injury at Darlington and then joined Halifax and then Gainsborough Trinity as player coach in 1998-99. Turnbull was hired by Barrow as an assistant manager in 1999 before taking the reins from Kenny Lowe as manager in April 2003. Barrow achieved third and second-place finishings during his time at Barrow, as being the cup winners in three occasions. The likes of Grant Holt and Glenn Murray were with Barrow while Turnbull played in Holker Street. Turnbull was dismissed in November of 2005 after six and a half seasons at Barrow. He was later employed as an assistant manager at Southport which he assisted to get Conference status with Manager Liam Watson, as head of recruitment and scouting for Sheffield United, and as the head of recruiting for Oldham Athletic.
Turnbull identified and helped recruit several players for Scunthorpe who went on to be sold for seven-figure sums. These include Gary Hooper (£2.4 million), Billy Sharp (£2 million) and Martin Paterson (£1 million). In the summer of 2018, Scunthorpe sold four players to Championship clubs for a combined total of around £3 million: Duane Holmes to Derby, Hakeeb Adelakun to Bristol City, Murray Wallace to Millwall and Conor Townsend to West Brom.
Turnbull was the former club’s head of community. Scunthorpe United’s head for communities for 17 years starting in 1998. He was the chief scout of the club from 2006 to 2011 and then again between 2014 and the year 2015. The club re- hired him as the head for recruitment on September.

Turnbull began his professional career by working as an apprentice at Middlesbrough before he signed professional forms in 1985. Turnbull was involved in the club’s reemergence from liquidation in the year 1986, beginning his career in the cup match away to Hull on November 15, 1985. He followed that with an appearance on the league sidelines with Millwall as well as a league debut away to Shrewsbury and was not able to witness the club’s demotion from the Championship. Turnbull played 21 games in cup and league games over the course of his time at The Boro, scoring 5 goals during the promotion-winning season of 1986-87.
He quit Middlesbrough in 1987 and joined Aston Villa for a PS50,000 cost. The club was Graham Taylor’s early signings. He was released from Villa without making a single appearance for him, and was featured only one time on the bench in the match against Manchester City, and went into playing for various smaller league clubs.
During his spell at Doncaster Rovers, he made 150 league and cup appearances. He scored two hat-tricks for Rovers, including a hat-trick of headers against Aldershot in a 3–0 win.
